Autoinvite by Alex (5 Replies) |

Hi, when I set "automatically invite any guest who matches the criteria in system settings to start a conversation" to an operator, after a while this option is disabled by default. Why?

Hi Alex,
The autoinvite feature is a system-wide setting and can't be turned on/off per operator. Is it possible that one operator turned it on, then a second operator turned it off (for all operators)?

Hello Johnnie. In the options menu of administration I activated the automatic invitation. Then log off as administrator and the two normal users (non-administrator) access to the chat, go on the guestlist and check the box "Automatically invite Any guest who matches the criteria in the system settings to start a conversation." After a few minutes, or change the page (for EXAMPLE of chat) you uncheck that box alone. Is this normal?

Please ignore my previous message---I looked through the code and found that autoinvite can be turned on/off per operator. Here's how it works:
The admin can globally turn autoinvite on/off from the options screen. If autoinvite is globally on, then each operator can locally turn autoinvite on/off for him or herself by checking/unchecking the box on the guestlist.
When a guest accepts an invite, autoinvite locally turns itself off (for only that operator) to prevent the operator from being overwhelmed by chat requests.
However, there's a bug that turns autoinvite off for all operators when a guest accepts an invite. This may account for why autoinvite seems to turn itself off for no reason.
If you like, I can issue you a patch that turns autoinvite off for an operator only when a guest accepts that operator's invite. Autoinvite would remain on for all other operators.
Let me know if any of this is unclear.

Hi Johnnie, you can release a patch to fix the bug? I'd be very grateful to you. :)
One more thing. In the "options" screen, I read "Automatically invite no more than ___ guest(s) at a time to chat." That value is general or for a single operator?
Let me explain. That value is general or for a single operator? Let me explain. In my chat are active 3 operators. If I set that value to 2, I will invite 2 people per operator or 2 people around?
Thanks.

I've sent you a patch that clears up the issue. Operators now have total control over when autoinvite is on/off (unless an administrator disables autoinvite, in which case it turns off for all operators).
As for your question, this value is for all operators, combined. For example, if you set this option to 2, then at most 2 guests will be invited to chat across your entire site.

Theme and credit by Alex (3 Replies) |

I wonder if in future you can customize the chat, at least the part for the public, more fully, perhaps acting on a CSS and HTML template. An interesting feature is the ability to ensure that the visitor can resize the chat window as you like, maybe squeezing.

Yes, this is definitely on the list of future features.
DoComments also had a hard-coded UI; the newest version moved it into fully editable HTML and CSS files. DoChatter is next.

I've sent you a patch that moves the chat window HTML into a separate file. You can now apply your own CSS styles and translate all public-facing text.

Localization and small adjustment by Alex (4 Replies) |

Hi, is possible to localize DoChatter in another language? The pictures I have already translated into Italian and if you want I can make them available. Can I also make myself available to translate the text, at least for the visible to the public.

|

Yes, localization is possible, albeit manually. Since the UI is currently hard-coded, what I can do is to take your translations of the below strings and give you a patch that you can apply to your DoChatter installation. Your chat window will then display the translated strings.
When possible, please reply back with translations for the following (all of these appear on the public-facing chat window):
1) 1-on-1 Chat
2) End Chat
3) and
4) second
5) seconds
6) minute
7) minutes
8) hour
9) hours
10) day
11) days
12) Send Message
13) You
14) Last message received

16) No messages
17) Enter your message, above, and press Send Message to start chatting.
18) Unable to load conversation
19) Sending Message...
20) Please enter a message.
21) Get the answers that you need by chatting with a knowledgeable associate through this interface.
22) Edit your post, above, and view all posts in this conversation, below.
23) Please wait
24) DoChatter is now loading the conversation.
25) Select All
26) Deselect All
If you could also make your translated images available, that'd be very helpful.

Installing Your Free 30 Day DoChatter Trial by Johnnie (1 Reply) |
1 year ago |
|
|
These are the same instructions that you'll find in your confirmation email after signing up for a free, 30 day trial of DoChatter:
1) Download the Windows installer
View your software downloads by visiting My Jerrata (my.jerrata.com). Once you've signed up for a DoChatter trial, you'll see an entry under 'My Purchases' with product name 'DoChatter Trial'.
You'll see three links to the right for viewing installation instructions (this thread), downloading the Windows installer and downloading your activation license. Click the second link to download the Windows installer.
2) Run the Windows installer
Once downloaded, run this program to install DoChatter onto your local or remote web server.
If you have a web server running on your computer, then you can install DoChatter onto this local web server for testing purposes. If you wish to install DoChatter onto your web hosting account so that it appears on your website, you'll want to choose the remote installation option.
If you have any difficulty using the Windows installer, please post in this thread, submit a support request or email support@jerrata.com.
3) Download your activation license
Once the Windows installer has finished, return to My Jerrata (my.jerrata.com) and click the third link to download your activation license.
Upload this license.txt file into the same directory on your web server where you installed DoChatter. This will unlock DoChatter for use until your trial expires. You'll find this expiration date in your confirmation email.
4) Visit install.php with your web browser
The final step is to use DoChatter's web-based installation wizard to customize the software to your website. Again, if you encounter any difficulties during installation, post in this thread, submit a support request or email support@jerrata.com.
Following installation, visit index.html to learn how to include DoChatter into your webpages, and visit admin.php to access DoChatter's admin panel.

Best Practices: Annoyance Factor by Johnnie (No Replies) |
1 year ago |
|
|
Studies show that using live support software to engage visitors can increase conversion by up to 10 times, but this increase can be negated if you annoy your visitors by being too chatty. Visitors' annoyance is a very real factor that can undermine the positive effect of adding live support to your site to the point of actually hurting conversion.
If you've ever visited a store with a salesperson that was a little too helpful---for example, repeatedly asking if you needed assistance when your intention was to browse on your own---then you can understand how overzealous live support can lead to the same outcome: an annoyed potential customer that's now less likely to make a purchase.
How can you avoid annoying your visitors?
1) Give visitors time to browse before inviting them to chat
If you prefer to manually invite visitors to chat, monitor their activity from the Guestlist tab in DoChatter's admin panel. If you see a visitor bouncing back and forth between pages, spending a lot of time on a FAQ or support page or aborting your checkout process, then this may indicate that the visitor is having trouble and would benefit from a chat session.
2) Use DoChatter's automatic invitations feature
DoChatter's robust automatic invitations feature lets you automatically invite any visitor who's browsed a minimum number of pages on your site, has spent a minimum amount of time on your site, or both. If you'd like to give visitors time to browse before offering to chat, click the Options tab along the top of DoChatter's admin panel, enable automatic invitations and specify a minimum number of pages browsed, a minimum amount of time onsite, or both.
3) Evaluate and adjust
Try different values for minimum number of pages browsed and minimum amount of time onsite to see which values maximize conversion. Take advantage of accepted chat invitations to elicit feedback from your visitors: ask whether the chat invitation felt rushed or if it occurred at a comfortable time. Use this feedback to adjust DoChatter's automatic invitations parameters.
If you have any feedback on this best practice, please feel free to add a reply.

Comments not showing up by Anthony (1 Reply) |

I just signed up for the 30 day free trial. When I included everything onto the website, the only thing that showed up was "Loading comments", but nothing else showed up. Is this a common problem? And if it is, how do I go about fixing it? Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure where i'm going wrong, but only the comments section is visible. But what is even more troubling is that it's totally manipulating the parent div that contains the script and I don't understand why.
Here's a link to the test page i've been working on: http://www.tweetarmory.com/software/test/

How do you delete a Topic from the DoComments control panel? I have three topics that I no longer use and would like to remove them from my list.

Hi Tyler,
There's currently no facility for deleting topics in the admin panel. If you like, you can create a support request that specifies the topics that you'd like deleted, and I'll delete them for you.
I'll update here when the facility to delete topics becomes available in the admin panel.
Best,
Johnnie

How can I remove the capta from the form, or change it to numbers or letter? This capta only works for english spoken people, others don't know what is being asked.

Hi Anuea,
To disable the captcha in DoComments 3, go to the Preferences tab in the admin panel (http://docomments.jerrata.com/admin). Find 'Post comment form preferences' in the Site Preferences section, uncheck the 'Require a captcha' checkbox and save your preferences.
The post comment form will no longer show the captcha field, and users won't be required to enter it to post a comment.
This section also allows you to change the captcha language.
Best,
Johnnie
